Democrat Scott Murphy is out with a one minute bio spot that will start airing Thursday in upstate New York. Murphy is on the air first in the special election battle to fill Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand’s former congressional seat. The spot was produced by Democratic media firm Murphy Putnam.

Murphy Putnam did Gov. Bill Richardson’s 2008 presidential race, producing the much talked about “job interview” ads. Mark Putnam was also tapped by the Obama campaign to produce the president’s 30-minute ad, which aired less than a week before Election Day.

The minute-long spot, entitled “Sunday Dinner,” talks up Scott Murphy as a family man and small business owner who wants to make upstate New York a better place to live for his kids. For Democrats, the early ad suggests that the party is ready to spend in this race. Murphy is bringing some of his own money to the table for this contest too.
